St. Francis Xavery Catholic Cathedral was built during the period of 1678-1705.

It was opened in 1705. Peter the Great & the King August II participated in the ceremony of its sanctification in 1705.

During the period of Commonwealth of Poland this cathedral & the monastery were the richest in the state.
